In a thermal-environment sensor which detects thermal conditions in an indoor environment based on the surface temperature of a heating element supplied with a thermal quantity, the spectral emissivity of the outer surface of said heating element closely conforming to the spectral emissivity of the surface of the human skin or clothes thereon so as to bring the radiant heat transfer coefficient of the sensor remarkably near that of the human body.
A simulation system for a fossil fuel power plant simulator. The simulation system includes first, second, and third displaying means for respectively displaying selected simulated flame characteristics within the furnace, emission density images from the smokestack, and water/steam levels as indicated by a steam drum level indicator of the power plant. A computer correlates the images displayed on the first, second, and third displaying means such that a change in the operating level of the pow...
Neutron activation due to high levels of neutron production in a first heated deuterium-tritium plasma is substantially reduced by using Ion Cyclotron Resonance Frequency (ICRF) heating of energetic .sup.3 He.sup.++ ions in a second deuterium-.sup.3 He.sup.++ plasma which exhibit an energy distribution and density similar to that of alpha particles in fusion reactor experiments to simulate fusion alpha particle heating in the first plasma. The majority of the fast .sup.3 He.sup.++ ions and their...
A method and apparatus for simulating multiple stimuli using symbolic encoding. In one embodiment, the method comprises encoding a plurality of sets of stimulus to create a symbolic stimulus, symbolically simulating a device under test, including applying the symbolic stimulus to the device under test, and outputting a symbolic result from the device under test in response to the symbolic stimulus.
A system and method for mimicking a human brain for MR imaging at various magnetic field strengths is disclosed. A phantom is constructed of a structure having a number of sections. A first section contains a mixture of nickel chloride, agarose gel powder, potassium sorbate, deuterium oxide, and water such that the T1, T2, and proton density values of the first section mimic white matter of the human brain. A second section contains different amounts of the same components such that the T1, T2, ...
A method for transforming a fuzzy logic system into a neural network, where, in order to simulate membership functions, sigmoid functions are linked together in such a way that, even after the optimization of the neural network, back-transformation of the neural network into a, fuzzy logic system is possible. The advantage of the method described is that a fuzzy logic system can be transformed, in particular component by component, into a neural network and the latter can then be optimized as a ...
A shoe lace device for a shoe includes first to ninth lace portions, a clamp member, and a cord unit. Lower ends of the first to sixth lace portions are anchored on the eyelet tabs. Upper ends of the first and second lace portions and those of the seventh and eighth lace portions are interconnected to form first and second loops, respectively. The upper ends of the third and ninth lace portions serve as distal lace segments. The clamp member is sleeved slidably on medial sections of the first to...
A method and apparatus for controlling a robot to simulate driving of a motor vehicle while the vehicle is actually on a chassis dynamometer includes provision for quickly, automatically, and accurately determining an accelerator gain factor to be used by the robot in actuating the accelerator of the motor vehicle to achieve predetermined vehicle speeds and accelerations. As a result, the simulated driving of the motor vehicle can be achieved so that the vehicle may be tested according to a pred...
A new and improved apparatus for spraying water in a child's wading pool to simulate a typhoon comprising a water spraying assembly which has a first tube in a circular configuration forming a first ring of an enlarged diameter. A plurality of inwardly directed spray heads on the first ring and first fluidic coupling components are secured to the first ring. A second tube in a circular configuration forms a second ring of a reduced diameter with radially extending tubes terminating in a central ...
Light emitting diodes (LEDs) at fixed locations are placed at the entrance face of the scintillator within the detector head of a scintillation camera system. By energizing the LEDs, surrogate scintillation events may be generated and processed by the scintillation camera system. Information thus acquired can be used to maintain the photodetectors in a well-tuned state, to identify baseline shifts in the preamplifier channels and to determine system deadtime.
