To determine some spatial characteristic, such as size or shape, of an object, the object is viewed with a television camera that employs an image sensor such as a CCD device. An image is formed on a television screen and a set of measurement markers (or cursors) are superimposed on the image at desired positions. The CCD timing signals are used to accurately determine the position of the cursors and hence the desired spatial characteristic.
A differentiating spatial light modulator device in which a photoreceptor and an electro-optic crystal are isolated by a dielectric mirror. The electro-optic crystal is configured to have low or zero longitudinal response, yet is sensitive to transverse electric fields. The fringe field generated by the photoreceptor (photodiode) modultes the crystal birefringence. Readout via a polarizing beamsplitter gives an output light related to the spatial gradient of the input light. In a liquid crystal ...
A compensating technique for use with a high-powered laser light source having an output with a plurality of transverse modes is disclosed which utilizes a diffusive medium placed between the laser and an object scene for constructing a hologram in an otherwise conventional manner.
An imaging system suitable for use with high energy nuclear particles or photons such as gamma radiation and X-radiation. The system provides means for illuminating an object with radiation as well as spatially coding the illuminating radiation or emitted radiation if the object is self-luminous, to provide a composite image representing the summation of the shadows from all points of the source of illumination. Spatial modulation is accomplished by a mask having a coded pattern of transparent a...
A diffractive spatial light modulator includes: a layer of electro-optic material; a first electrode arrangement substantially covering a first side of the layer; and a second electrode arrangement substantially covering a second side of the layer. The first electrode arrangement includes a plurality of sets of elongate electrodes, and the elongate electrodes of each of the sets are electrically connected together and interdigitated with the elongate electrodes of at least one of the other acts....
A spatial image separator includes a separating arrangement that separates an incident image pattern into a plurality of segments. The spatial image separator additionally includes a manner of relocating and selectively recombining a set of the segments toward at least one output position. This is accomplished in a manner which preserves information content while significantly improving energy utilization.
A spatial light modulator in the form of a deformable mirror device (110) receives from a frame store (116) data which has been formatted by a data formatter (114) subsequent to gamma correction in a ROM look-up table (112). The DMD (110) displays different light levels by being ON for selected periods of a series of durations 4, 8, 16 . . . 1024 varying in proportion to a basic period multiplied by powers of two. The shortest duration 4 for which the DMD can be turned on is a multiple of the ba...
The present invention provides methods and apparatus for implementing spatial multiplexing in conjunction with the one or more multiple access protocols during the broadcast of information in a wireless network. A wireless cellular network for transmitting subscriber datastream(s) to corresponding ones among a plurality of subscriber units located within the cellular network is disclosed. The wireless cellular network includes base stations and a logic. The base stations each include spatially s...
A processing system for a spatial light modulator in the form of an array of deformable mirror devices receives a gamma-corrected, color component, video input signal. The input signal is converted to pixel data which is then converted to RGB data. A de-gamma processor removes all or part of the gamma-correction of the pixel data to match the data to the form of the spatial light modulator.
The exact position of a work location (24) is mapped by the aid of at least three differential Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) receivers (12, 14, and 16) situated proximate the work location. Each of the differential Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) receivers establishes its own exact position and transmits that information to a spatial positioning system receiver (18) at the work location that determines its position from the position of the individual differential Global Positioning Satel...
