Pyrazomycin is a new antibiotic produced by the fermentation of Streptomyces candidus NRRL 3601, having antiviral and antifungal activity.
The preparation and copolymerization of the monomer, acrylyloxyacetylferrne, are disclosed. The copolymerization of the ferrocene-containing monomer with a diene selected from butadiene, isoprene, and chloroprene yields copolymers for use in propellants. The copolymers are liquid compounds which are terminated with selected functional groups for curing by suitable curatives into practical propellants exhibiting high burning rates.
A fluid dispersed suspension of clay or other negatively charged pigment or filler is produced by adding the pigment or filler to water in the presence of the combination of a nonionic surface active agent and a cationic surface active agent at an alkaline pH. The resulting suspension may be incorporated into cationic media, e.g., a solution of cationic starch, protein adhesive or cationic latex, to produce improved paper coating compositions. The suspension may be incorporated into a solution o...
An expendible menses collector for insertion into the vagina and comprised of a collapsible monocoque shell of ovular form having a perforated upper hemisphere and an imperforate lower hemisphere and within which there is a chamber filled with resilient and absorbent material. The shell of the device is pliant and supple and has a circumferential seal at its major diameter that effectively engages with the vagina wall. Insertion is effected by collapse of the pliant shell and aided by lubricatio...
Display case for an object of the type having spaced parallel generally planar first and second major surfaces having a member which is provided with an opening therein which is sized to receive the object to be displayed with the member having first and second major spaced apart parallel planar surfaces which are generally flush with the first and second major surfaces of the object placed within the opening and having an enclosure mounted on the member and generally enclosing the member with t...
A photopolymerizable composition comprising: I. an unsaturated polyester having an average molecular weight of about 1,500 to 50,000, containing in the molecule at least one weight percent of a segment, measured from one ester bond to the next ester bond, having a molecular weight of about 80 to 5,000, and containing about 2 .times. 10.sup.-.sup.3 to 2 .times. 10.sup.-.sup.4 mole of ethylenic unsaturation per gram of unsaturated polyester; Ii. about 10 to 80 weight percent of at least one ethyle...
An electric power fuse produced by a method comprising the steps of preparing two circular discs each having a central hole and a plurality of peripheral slits, and each slit having a lug at the radially inner end thereof, placing the circular discs at a predetermined distance, inserting fuse elements in the slits so that two ends of the fuse elements are fixed around the lugs, slipping an insulating tube over the fuse elements thus assembled, and filling the interior of the insulating tube with...
Flowmeter test apparatus called a ball prover including a ball rollable in a pipeline past two axially spaced, spring biased, normally open, momentary contact switches which, when closed, discharge a capacitor, the capacitor having a charging rate lower than its discharging rate to discriminate against pulses which would normally be produced by the bouncing of one or more of the switch contacts. Pulse discrimination may also be achieved through the use of a regenerative amplifier that has hyster...
Resins useful in adhesive formulations are prepared by polymerization of an alkoxystyrene with an olefinically unsaturated nitrile in a solution or dispersion of a rubber. The polymeric compositions can be applied to surfaces as a hot melt adhesive or solvent cement.
Silica pigments are precipitated by the acidulation of aqueous sodium silicate solution with carbon dioxide, and for controlling the characteristics of the silica pigment obtained, as evidenced by the physical properties imparted to rubber vulcanizates thereby when used as a rubber reinforcing filler, the silicate solution is maintained at different average temperatures during different stages of such acidulation, which end respectively, with the appearance of a Tyndall effect, the subsequent pr...
