The process of removing contaminants from a liquid medium, comprising the steps of A. contacting a quantity of the contaminated liquid medium with a solvent regenerable first adsorbent during a first phase, that adsorbent having an affinity for the contaminants and a volume which are insufficiently high to produce a desired degree of purification during the first phase, whereby a fraction of the contaminants is adsorbed by the first adsorbent and a partially purified effluent of the medium is pr...
Processes and techniques are described for treating waste water (domestic and industrial) to remove organic matter and heavy metals. Clay and flocculating agent are added to the waste water to cause separation of a sludge. The sludge is fired at high temperature in particle form to produce ceramic particles. Organic matter is oxidized; heavy metals are bound within the ceramic particles and cannot leach out. The ceramic particles are useful as aggregate (e.g., in concrete) and in landscaping.
Apparatus and method for embedding hazardous waste material deeply within stable geological formations. The hazardous material is placed in containers and the containers are placed inside hollow piles. The piles are moved to an offshore location and driven into the seabed.
A waste bag made of a synthetic plastics material. It has an internal lining of a liquid-absorbent material which terminates inwardly of the mouth of the bag, so that the latter is free of lining in the region of its mouth to enable that region to be gathered and tied.
A waste container comprising a cylindrical barrel having a lid hingedly secured thereto and which may be moved between open and closed positions. A latching mechanism is secured to the side wall of the barrel and securely latches the lid in its closed position until sufficient force is applied to a pressure pad located at the outside of the barrel.
A container is disclosed having a first massive container element with side walls and bottom wall defining a first interior. The first massive container has an opening exposing the first interior. A second massive container element is provided with side walls and bottom walls cooperating to define a second interior. The second massive container element is disposed within the interior of the first massive container element with exterior walls of the second container element abutting interior wall...
A hot waste oil or shortening transport device comprising an elongated wholly closed tank or the like with an entry-exit chute at one end and wheels on the other end. A handle at the chute end serves to wheel the tank to a disposal point where the chute acts as a fulcrum by which to pivot the tank up and pour out the contents, with the greatest safety. The device cannot be set upright, in which postion it would be liable to upset or knock-over.
There is disclosed a waste container having a large access opening in its top wall and a lid which may be raised and guidably moved by a person located on one side of the container between a position closing the opening and an upright position adjacent the side wall of the container.
Burning a waste fuel blend at very high temperatures (typically greater than 4000 deg. F.) for a very short period of time (typically a matter of milliseconds) in a primary combustion zone to break the complex hazardous/toxic hydrocarbons into less complex chemicals (such as CO, CO.sub.2, H.sub.2, OH, HCl, and Cl.sub.2), passing the products of the primary zone into a secondary zone in which the products are maintained for a longer time (typically about 2 secs.) in turbulent conditions with exce...
A waste stripping machine for automatically removing waste from previously die-cut blanks is disclosed. The machine incorporates a feed conveyor to deliver the blanks individually to a stripping section in planar alignment. The stripping section includes a pair of transversely spaced waste strippers which are spaced apart an adjustable distance that is equal to the width of the blank. A rack and pinion traversing mechanism is included to easily move one waste stripper relative to the other for b...
