The present invention provides a process for the management of H.sub.2 S containing gas streams and high alkalinity water streams in which process the H.sub.2 S is selectively removed from the gas stream and combusted to form an SO.sub.2 rich waste gas stream. The SO.sub.2 gas stream is then scrubbed with the water stream to substantially remove the SO.sub.2 from the gas while subsequent treatment of the water such as softening or settling is improved.
A method of decomposing wastes containing target compounds having one or more of hydrolyzable bonds of ether bond, ester bond, amide bond and isocyanate bond wherein the method comprises continuously supplying the wastes in a molten state or liquid state to a reactor, continuously supplying super-critical water or high pressure/high temperature water to the reactor, bringing the water into contact with the wastes, thereby decomposing the target compounds and then recovering them as raw material ...
A process for treating thickened phosphatic clay suspensions, waste clay and phosphogypsum produced in the processing of phosphate ore by water beneficiation and chemical processing, the thickened phosphatic clay suspension having a solid content of from about 4 to about 40 percent by weight, includes mixing a sufficient amount of deflocculating agent with a thickened phosphatic clay suspension to cause deflocculation of the suspension to an extent sufficient to reduce the viscosity thereof to a...
A process for conversion of organic wastes into biofertilizers such as soil conditioning agents of fertilizer grade, culture grade and soil grade is provided. Also provided is a process for conversion of organic wastes into material for converting waste water into reusable water. The invention provides methods for conversion of organic solid wastes to biofertilizers and reusable water in the presence of a geophagus earthworm Pheretima elongata culure to produce a variety of valuable soil conditi...
An apparatus for treating wastes includes a fluidized bed reactor for partially combusting the wastes at a relatively low temperature, and a separate relatively high temperature reactor for separate gasification of gaseous material and char from the first gasification. This synthesis gas thus formed is cooled, subjected to a conversion operation in a converter to produce hydrogen.
A liquid wastes treatment system, including a two-stage, high-rate, activated, biological filter is disclosed. An activated floc, similar to that found in activated sludge processes, is built up in the biological filter by recycling substantial quantities of aerobic sludge from a secondary clarifier to the biological filter and by metering the solids wasted from the treatment system to maintain the mixed liquor, suspended solids level in the filter effluent in excess of about 1,500 mg./1. Underd...
A method and apparatus for treating wastes by gasification recovers metals or ash content in the wastes in such a state that they can be recycled, and gases containing carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrogen (H.sub.2) for use as synthesis gas of ammonia (NH.sub.3). The wastes are gasified in a fluidized-bed reactor at a relatively low temperature, and gaseous material and char produced in the fluidized-bed reactor are introduced into the high-temperature combustor. The synthesis gas is produced in the...

An article for dealing with body wastes including a panel which includes a topsheet, a backsheet and a core disposed therebetween has a bottom, a peripheral wall extending upward from a peripheral edge of the bottom and a top opening defined by the peripheral wall. The peripheral wall which is elastically stretchable along an edge of the opening includes an obtusely curved front peripheral wall section, an acutely curved a rear peripheral wall section and a pair of intermediate peripheral wall s...
To treat waste containing harmful metals such as lead, cadmium, mercury, chromium, copper, nickel, zinc, etc., the waste is mixed with a treating agent containing, as the essential constituent component, solid acid(s) and/or cement and additionally a caking inhibitor, kneaded with water where necessary, then solidified by curing. Harmful metals are thereby stabilized in the thus-solidified cakes and are not released therefrom.
